An eastern US native which should b e a staple in all gardens, large or small.  The evergreen patches of 6"t rosettes burst forth in spring to form 1' wide clumps of fuzzy thumb-shaped green leaves and are topped with dozens of 1", yellow-petaled, daisy-like flowers. A maintenance free ground cover, it can be divided and spread around the garden quite easily. Light open shade is best, although a few hours of morning sun will result in a more floriferous, denser plant. Native bees seem to be the primary pollinator for this ground cover.
