Lewisia longipetala 'Little Plum'
Lewisia longipetala 'Little Plum'
A pretty small western native for a perfectly drained site.  Named for M. Lewis of Lewis and Clark this is stunning perennial with flesh, spatula-like leaves in tight rosettes.  It is much hardier and more tolerant of our eastern humidity than most Lewisias and bears pink flowers high above the foliage.  Great around rocks, especially crevices.  Pink, salmon-tinged flowers appear between May and June.  Plant Sun/Part Shade.  (Hardy to Zone 4)
